Camp Coordination and Camp Management in Emergencies Workshop Held in Namibia

Namibia – IOM this week co-organized a 3-day camp coordination and camp management in emergencies workshop in Windhoek, Namibia.

Participants at the workshop, hosted by IOM and the Office of the Prime Minister/Directorate Disaster Risk Management, included key national stakeholders and Namibian camp management trainers, who this year trained 1,633 individuals in disaster and displacement preparedness at national, regional and local level.

Trainees have included national disaster preparedness practitioners, regional disaster risk management committees, traditional authorities, and disaster prone communities in seven high risk regions in the north and north-east of the country - Caprivi, Kavango, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana and Oshikoto.

The Windhoek workshop, part of a national programme funded by the European Union, also validated three new disaster risk management and camp management resources to be released early in 2013.

They include a camp coordination and camp management manual, a manual for minimum standards in humanitarian assistance, and an emergency information manual. The workshop also included strategic planning for 2013.
