Building Capacities on International Migration Law
More than 80 officials from Organization of American States (OAS)
countries and members of the General Secretariat discussed
international migration law, standards and principles relating to
the international protection of migrants as well as international
and regional cooperation at a one-day introductory course on the
human rights of migrant workers and their families this week.
The course, organized by IOM in partnership with the OAS and the
International Labour Organization (ILO), is to provide a
preliminary overview of migration terminology, State rights and
obligations, and international legal instruments related to the
human and labour rights of migrants.
The trainers, who include experts on international migration
law, labour law, and human rights, also looked at human trafficking
and smuggling.
