Assisting Cambodia's Consular Missions Overseas to Help Its Nationals
A consular manual produced by IOM and released this week, will help
the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in delivering improved
consular services both through its missions overseas as well as at
its headquarters in Phnom Penh.
The working tool is also intended to strengthen assistance and
protection provided to Cambodian citizens abroad.
The Consular Manual, which forms part of an overall Canadian
funded consular enhancement programme, is complemented by concise
Consular Summaries developed by IOM providing users with one-page
summaries of the most frequently faced consular issues.
The manual was introduced at a three-day workshop based on an
associated training package developed by IOM to help Cambodian
consular officers conduct regular induction courses for new
officials. A computer-based version of this training package is for
use in Cambodia’s overseas missions.
"We are confident that the Cambodian Consular Manual will
support consular officials in their daily work and we hope that it
will also contribute towards inspiring excellence in the provision
of assistance and protection to Cambodian citizens abroad. With
greater levels of mobility among Cambodians, there is an increasing
demand from its workers abroad for such help," says IOM's programme
manager in Phnom Penh, Giuseppe Crocetti.
