97th Special Session of the IOM Council Elects New Deputy Director General
IOM Member States will meet in private session on Monday 29 June at
the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
During this session, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the
Republic of Namibia will formally apply for IOM membership. This
will bring the number of IOM Member States to 127.
The Council will also elect by a two-thirds majority a Deputy
Director General for a five-year term of office.
The official list of candidates is as follows, in alphabetical
order: Mr. Marco Boasso (Uruguay), Mr. Esteban Conejos (The
Philippines), Mr. Alfonso López-Araujo (Ecuador) and Ms.
Laura Thompson (Costa Rica).
