30th Annual IOM Inter-American Course on International Migration Opens in Argentina
Participants from 11 Latin American countries arrived this week in
the Argentina resort city of Mar del Plata to begin 11 days of
intensive training focusing on a variety of thematic modules,
including migration processes in Latin America, the international
protection of migrants, labour migration management instruments and
policies, and counter-trafficking.
This year marks the thirtieth year that the Inter-American
Course on International Migration brings together officials to
exchange information and discuss migration concerns and policies in
their individual countries and in the region.
For 26 years, IOM was a co-organizer of the course as part of
its technical cooperation activities in the region. For the
past three years the IOM Regional Office in Buenos Aires has been
the sole organizer.
In 1999, the course adopted an intensive training system within
a shorter time frame, allowing for the participation of senior
government officials.
Over the past 29 years, the Inter-American Course on
International Migration has trained more than 620 government
officials.
