The Rapid Response Team Simulation Exercise - RRT SimEx is an experiential learning process where participants are completely immersed for five days in simulated activities covering the deployment phases, with reflection and debriefing at the end of the day. It works on several levels building in live simulated events for each phase, including meeting with government authorities and partners, and conducting field visits to assess sites and conditions for the Internally Displaced (IDPs).

The Department of Humanitarian Response and Recovery’s (DHRR) new initiative on the development of Rapid Response Team (RRT) simulation for crisis situations is part of a broader effort to enhance the organization’s preparedness, capacity, and agility to respond to emergencies and how it aligns with the strategic objectives and the changes happening in the regions. At present, IOM hosts two institutional training programmes dedicated towards the readiness of potential surge deployees: the Emergency Response Induction Training (ERIT) and Senior Emergency Leadership and Coordination (SELAC). Building from these, IOM recognizes the value of a practical simulation exercise over an extended multi-phase and multi-day period which targets potential surge deployees, as a complement to the ERIT and SELAC trainings.
