Dutch Government Contributes Euro 1 million to IOM Earthquake Response in Yogjakarta, Indonesia

The International Organization for
Migration’s emergency response to the earthquake in Java,
Indonesia today received a Euro 1 million contribution from the
Netherlands government.

The funds will be used to support IOM’s
transport and logistics operations, medical programming and
purchase emergency supplies including generators, shelter
materials, mattresses and blankets.

“This early contribution will be vital
to the success of our emergency response here in Java,” said
IOM Executive Officer Paul Norton.

IOM has transported roughly 190 tons of
supplies into the affected areas on behalf of the Indonesian
government and international aid organizations.

A fleet of vehicles has returned more that 150
people discharged from hospitals and 160 of their accompanying
family members to their home communities, and 20 minivans are
transporting patients from the overcrowded hospital in Bantul to
the US Marine field hospital.

IOM is also searching for alternate
accommodations in Yogjakarta to board those survivors who are not
prepared to go back to their villages, many of which were
completely razed by the dawn 6.3 magnitude quake.
