What is the project about?
A significant proportion of young individuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina express concern over their economic situation and an overall sense of stagnation. Prevailing sentiments point towards concerns over unemployment, limited political influence, and the prospect of leaving the country in search of better opportunities.
Considering these perceptions, this project focuses on addressing socio-economic dissatisfaction among youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while also considering the increasing environmental challenges, particularly air pollution and climate-related issues, that impact community well-being. By engaging youth from central and peripheral at-risk communities, the project aims to utilize gender and environment-oriented solutions, including participatory budgeting, innovation-driven grants, and capacity development activities. This is working to foster climate resilience and social cohesion by harnessing the untapped potential of these groups.
How is the project innovative?
This project showcases innovation in addressing the challenges faced by youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in relation to engagement, empowerment, and socio-environmental sustainability. It adopts a versatile approach that connects environmental concerns with socio-economic well-being and community resilience, placing youth at the centre of the nexus between migration, environment, climate resilience, gender, and social cohesion.
The project stands out for its integration of participatory methodologies, community engagement, and technology. The project introduces innovative mechanisms such as the Environment Innovation Start-up Week(end)s, which encourage youth to develop solutions for local sustainability challenges. By promoting green investments, participatory budgeting, and small grants, the project fosters youth-led initiatives that contribute to community resilience.
