Through its strategic partnership with Airbnb.org, an independent and publicly-supported nonprofit, IOM has been able to provide safe, private, and accessible accommodation to people who have been forcibly displaced worldwide. Since 2019, Airbnb.org, which receives support from Airbnb, has been a vital partner in IOM’s emergency response efforts. IOM’s partnership with Airbnb.org has facilitated the connection of over 54,000 refugees and asylum seekers from Syria, Venezuela, and Afghanistan to temporary housing through the extensive network of Airbnb.org hosts. In 2022, Airbnb.org continued its work with IOM to connect people fleeing from Ukraine to free, short-term housing in Poland, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia. Together, we have also provided safe accommodation to support people in vulnerable situations in Ecuador, Peru, and Mexico.
"Airbnb.org is proud to be working alongside IOM once again, this time
to support those fleeing Ukraine, and to assist in what has become one
of the largest humanitarian crises of our lifetime. We are grateful for the
continued generosity of the Airbnb community, who have opened their homes to refugees or have donated to Airbnb.org's efforts.”Joe Gebbia, Chairman of Airbnb.org and Airbnb Co-founder
