Heads of the EU Delegation and ECHO visit Doyaba Transit Site, Sarh, Chad, 03 April 2014
The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation, H.E. Ambassador Ms. Helen Cave, the Head of the European Commission – Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection (ECHO), Mr. Thomas Dehermann, and the IOM Chief of Mission in Chad, Dr. Qasim Sufi visited Doyaba Transit Site, Sarh in Southern Chad on 03 April 2014.
The main objective of the joint visit was to follow up the situation of the thousands of returnees, refugees and other Third Country Nationals (TCNs) who fled the crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR) and entered Chad by road convoys organized by the GoC in southern Chad, and also to announce fresh financial support of EUR 500,000 from ECHO for the continuation of the emergency response to the new and massive influx in Chad from CAR.
During their one-day visit, the EU, ECHO and IOM teams went to the Doyaba Transit Site in Sarh that is currently hosting thousands of evacuees from CAR. The team also met with local authorities of the region (Moyen Chari).
IOM Chad’s emergency response to the massive influx of returnees, refugees and TCNs from CAR is funded primarily by ECHO.
